Program Description BA Classical Arabic allows you to achieve near-native proficiency in Standard Arabic and to study the Classical language within its cultural and historical context.   Students commence as complete beginners and advance to an superior level of proficiency over four years. The Classical Arabic program also looks more widely at Islamic culture, literature and introduces students to social and cultural trends in the Islamic world and beyond.  BA Classical Arabic has been carefully structured to allow you to measure your progress step by step. Learning Classical Arabic also opens the door to the vast literature of the modern and medieval Arab and Islamic world, including religious and secular texts, while providing you with a perfect platform from which you may learn one or more of the colloquial dialects spoken in the Arab World today. The fourth year of study may be spent at an academic institution in an Arab country, an ideal way to improve your fluency in the language while gaining a fascinating first hand experience of the Arab world and its vibrant cultures.

BA Classical Arabic Studies Include The Following:
* Classical Arabic language courses: Gain competence in reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension, while developing knowledge and understanding of Classical Arab as well as Classical and modern Islamic culture.
* Classical Arabic-based thematic courses: Study Classical documents, prose and scriptural manuscripts, which introduce you to the cultures of the medieval Arab World; read contemporary literature reflecting life and social trends in the modern Arab and Islamic world.
* A choice from a wide variety of options to focus on your special interests or to extend your studies to other disciplines open within the Academy such as Tajwid (Eloquent pronunciation of Classical Arabic), Islamic history, Tafsir (Interpretation of Classical Qur`anic texts)  or Arabic Calligraphy.

* Native speakers of Classical Arabic shall be involved in your language teaching at all levels on BA (Hons) Classical Arabic Studies, and an understanding of the Classical culture forms an inherent part of learning the Classical Arabic language. Classical Arabic Course Content for Level 100 Level 100 courses take students from zero proficiency in reading and writing Classical Arabic to complete fluency in reading and writing Classical Arabic words with vowels.  Classical Arabic grammar is gently introduced to create a comfort zone to encourage students’ progress to learning the language.  Features insight on Classical Arabic history, Classical Arabic culture and global scholarly contributions by Classical Arabic speakers. In order to build students’ confidence level in the Classical Arabic language, level one courses conclude by providing students with conversational and elocution skills, whereby students put the grammatical theory they learned into practical applications through formation of dialogues, skits and speech presentations in Classical Arabic.

Classical Arabic Course Content for Level 200 In the second level you will continue your language learning, increase your reading of authentic texts in Classical Arabic, analyzing Arabic prose and literature written over a thousand years ago.

Classical Arabic Course Content for Level 300 The third level concentrates on conversational and elocution skills in Classical Arabic, whereby students shall put the theory they learned into practical applications through formation of Arabic dialogues and Arabic speech presentations.

Classical Arabic Course Content for Level 400 The fourth year covers an advanced language course, a variety of specialized Arabic Studies course choices and finally a dissertation on an approved topic of your choice.

Career Opportunities Seeing as Classical Arabic is official language of the Arab world, there are numerous opportunities for graduates of the Classical Arabic program at Cordova Academy.  The academic and social skills acquired from the Classical Arabic courses, which equip graduates with the ability to live and work in the Arab world, are welcomed by a broad spectrum of employers including foreign affairs, language teaching institutions, non-governmental organizations, the United Nations and European Union, print and broadcast journalism, tourism and commerce.

Entry Requirements English language: Candidates must be proficient in the English language, which is the language of instruction and examination at the Academy.

Coursework and Assessment Nearly all Classical Arabic course units are assessed by a combination of oral and written examinations.

Accreditation At Present, credits are only issued by Cordova Academy.
